Flotrackr

For years I’ve struggled to find an online running log that was as good or better than a handwritten log.  I treasure my running logs and often pull them out to look at where I’ve been…in the context of where I want to go.

I started using Flotrackr in the last quarter of 2007 and I’ve really grown to like it.

It’s not perfect…but, it has all of the basics.  And, it keeps getting better.  Plus, I benefit from and appreciate what Mark & the Flotrack gang are doing, so I want to be supportive.  I’m not sure why they don’t have more advertising in the product, as they should be monetizing my daily page views (as well as every other runners’ page views) to support their world travels and running vlog coverage…becuase it’s much needed and one of a kind.

So, if you’re looking for a running log, check it out:  www.flotrackr.com.

Why streaker?

I’ve decided to start a new blog focused on running.  The title of this blog — A Seattle Streaker — may seem peculiar.  But, it’s actually pretty straight forward.  I live in Seattle.  And, several years ago, I joined a Hood to Coast relay team named the Stonemill Streakers.  Hence, the name — Seattle Streaker.

That first year of being on the Streakers, I didn’t actually run on the team.  I drove a van and managed logistics.  But, it was just the kick in the arse I needed to start running again.  I had going more than 5 years without running nary a step.  Since then, I’ve had some periods of good consistency and some long breaks…but, I’ve kept at it.  And, now, finally, years later, I’m enjoying it more than I have in a long, long time.

In addition to running for the Streakers (which is only a one relay a year thing…but, the once a streaker always a streaker rule applies), I’ve started running for the Seattle Running Company.

I like the “mojo” of the people there, plus it fits well with my desire to run ultras.  They’re good at that…real good.  It’s not just Scott Jurek and Uli Steidlwho are good, but a whole slew of them.  Greg Crowther is tearing it up.  In fact, USATF just named Greg their ultrarunner of the year for 2007.  But, there are so many other good ultra runners that are part of this group…Brian Morrison, Phil Kochik, Justin Angle, Jim Kerby, and so many others.

I started my year running the Bridle Trails 10.4 miler…a moderately hilly, muddy muck of a course finishing 13th.  Apparently, I was the Seattle Running Company’s top finisher.   But, I’ve got a long way to go to be as good as the SRC ultra women, let alone the men.  And, for those of you who know me…I relish that type of challenge.  2008 should be a fun year of running.
