About This Blog

Why Northwest Ultrarunning?

I created this blog for several reasons:

1.)     I’m incredibly passionate about both running & writing and this blog combines those two passions

2.)     I feel that the Pacific Northwest Ultrarunning scene is one of the best in the world and doesn’t get the media/press coverage it deserves

Given the above reasons, I’ll focus the majority of this blog on covering Ultrarunning in the Pacific Northwest (Washington & Oregon, primarily).   I’m sure I’ll have a bias toward Seattle, given that is where I live and work.

Additionally, you should also expect a fair number of stories about my own running — past & present — ranging from my high school experiences in Punxsutawney, PA running for famed coach John Smith to my days running in Division II first for Shippensburg and then for Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).   And, if I continue to get fit, you’ll see coverage of my own present-day training and racing.

Enjoy the blog and Happy Trails!

  1. good to hear the inside scoop on you Fleck. Get fit and and kick butt on those Ultras!

  2. Glad I found this blog. I live south of you and often times get jealous of the ultra scene up in seattle. I lost 130 lbs in 2007. I finished 7 marathons and 4 utlras (up to 50 miler) in 2008. Running has changed my life. I agree with you also that the ultra runs and races in the northwest are great.
